Rough Radio (RR) is a grassroots project; founded, based and broadcast from Rome. It presents a unique opportunity for both local and international independent and emerging artists to access and embrace a diverse, community driven platform.
Our focus is to invigorate and enrich the independent and underground influence worldwide. We aim to bring artists and music enthusiasts together in a collective and sustainable experience where diversity and freedom of expression is nurtured through web radio and organised events.
Conceived in 2022, RR was inspired by a discovery, passion and appreciation for the pirate radio stations that thrive in London’s music scene. On returning to Rome, RR’s founders noticed an absence of similar concepts and opportunities for artists. RR stands as their resolute answer to that.
Unbound by the constraints of conventional radio stations, RR is structured on a participatory model. Participants worldwide are invited to actively contribute to the programme by submitting their weekly, monthly, or bimonthly mixes, live performances, or tracklists. This open and dynamic approach allows for a variety of genres, ensuring diversity in content and an intriguing schedule.
Organized events are a core element of RR. We strive to host regular events for artists to perform live, network and share their ideas, projects and experiences. The future plans of RR involve expanding to a physical base to offer a creative hub, enable live streaming, community events and further expand Rome’s alternative cultural imprint.
